- Fujitsu Develops World's First Gallium-Nitride HEMT Able to Cut Power in Standby Mode and Achieve High Output
Tokyo and Kawasaki, Japan, October 10, 2008 – Fujitsu Limited and Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. today announced the development of a new type of gallium nitride (GaN) -based high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) that features a new structure ideal for use in amplifiers for microwave and millimeter-wave transmissions, frequency ranges for which usage is expected to grow. In a technological first, a novel transistor structure was developed that achieves high output of over 100 watts and enables power to be cut when the transistor is in standby mode. This technological advance will contribute to higher output and lower power consumption in microwave and millimeter-wave transmission amplifiers for high-speed wireless communications.

- Fujitsu Microelectronics, e-Shuttle and D2S to Develop Maskless ICs
Tokyo and San Jose, October 9, 2008 – Fujitsu Microelectronics Limited (“FML”), e-Shuttle Inc.(“e-Shuttle”) - a joint venture established by FML and Advantest Corporation (“Advantest”) - and D2S, an emerging design and software company, today announced an agreement under which FML and e-Shuttle will adopt D2S’ advanced design for e-beam (DFEB)* technology - starting with a 65-nm Low Power (LP) library - to result in the creation of test silicon to refine and validate DFEB technology for the 65-nm, 40-nm and below nodes. e-Shuttle will produce test chips using D2S’ advanced DFEB design and software capabilities, and FML’s standard cell libraries. These test chips will be manufactured using Advantest’s F3000 e-beam direct-write (EBDW) lithography equipment, which is already in operation at e-Shuttle. As a result of this partnership, FML will be able to manufacture ICs faster and more cost-effectively than is possible with conventional e-beam direct lithography technologies.

- CBS Broadcasts Democratic and Republican National Conventions in High Definition Using Fujitsu IP-9500e MPEG-4 Encoders
Sunnyvale, CA, October 6, 2008 – Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., a leading supplier of innovative computer products and broadcast solutions, announced today that the Fujitsu IP-9500e was the exclusive broadcast contribution video encoder used by CBS News to deliver its coverage of the Democratic and Republican National Conventions in high-definition (HD). The IP-9500e enabled CBS News to send high-quality HD video feeds from the convention floors as well as Investco Field to its new HD Control Room 47 in New York with exceptionally low encode/decode latency. The highly compressed HD video stream from the IP-9500e enabled multiplexing 10 to 14 HD video channels and simultaneously transmitted them back to the CBS Control Room over terrestrial IP networks with bandwidths traditionally associated with standard-defiintion feeds. The HD video quality met CBS's stringent video quality requirements and was free of troublesome lip-sync issues normally associated with such multiplexed configurations. CBS’s coverage was considered by many as the best quality video from the Conventions.
